Late last year, PMI came out with a new Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) v. 5. Like a lot of people, I wrote something up about it on these very pages. Now that the date of the test cutover (July 31) is imminent and I’ve done a deeper drill, I thought it might be advantageous to revisit this subject:
For PMBOK 5, PMI has made changes to processes, changes to Inputs, Tools and Techniques and Outputs (ITTO’s) added a tenth Knowledge Area called Stakeholder Management and made some other relatively minor revisions. Changes are much more evolutionary than revolutionary. PMBOK structure remains exactly the same in terms of Inputs, Outputs, Tools and Techniques. In addition to a new Knowledge Area, Chapters 1 and 2 have more information about organizational influences. Appendix X3 discusses Interpersonal Skills including leadership, conflict resolution, political and cultural awareness, and team building. Lastly section X1.11 through X1.21 472-481 provides information about overall changes to Knowledge areas.
Ten Knowledge Areas instead of nine

For more information about this see my blog post under PMBOK entitled “PMBOK 4 to 5 – Stakeholder Management.
In subsequent posts I will detail some of the items below. In the meantime, here is a short list of changes
The new processes are:
